Indian author, newspaper columnist, film producer and former Bollywood actor, Twinkle Khanna, has joined Save the Children as the Artist Ambassador to champion girls’ encourage adolescent health and right to menstrual hygiene.

Twinkle Khanna believes, “Even today, one half of the population in our country continues to struggle for their fair share. Women and girls are often denied access to rights simply because they are born girls. And this discrimination begins right from the womb and the cycle continues. And they continue to lose out on the most basic of the rights – whether we talk of health, education and on it goes. Let’s start with adolescent health and menstrual hygiene which is often ignored. Access to basic health and hygiene should not be a matter of chance but choice and rights.

Taboos and lack of awareness around something as natural as menstruation push more than 50 per cent of women to most unhygienic practices. We need to push boundaries, and we need to have more open, honest conversations around menstruation to begin with. It is literally getting back to the basics when we talk of equal rights. I wanted the look and feel to be as authentic as possible and Nagpur has its own unique charm, feel and locales, different from Mumbai and Pune. The language of the film would be best showcased in Nagpur hence I chose the lanes of that city. "

The veteran actor will start shooting for 'Jhund' around mid November on a non stop schedule in Nagpur, after the KBC Season finale, and after the release of the hugely anticipated Thugs Of Hindostan.

Asked if as a debut film she was hesitant to take such a deglamour role Radhika said, "I chose this film because it is a Vishal Bharadwaj film. It wouldn't matter even if he asked me to play a mice in the film, I would still do it. Also I really wanted to live Champa Kumari's life. I didn't think more than that and just asked him to transform me. And the times have changed nobody really thinks about how glamorous you role has to be for a debut film, people do really appreciate acting now and look for value for money."
