Imtiaz Ali reminds me of Yash Chopra: Shah Rukh Khan

#Imtiaz_Ali's knack of telling love stories, his affinity for travel and his penchant for adding a touch of Punjab to his films is reminiscent of the late filmmaker #Yash_Chopra, says superstar #Shah_Rukh_Khan, who has worked with the "Jab We Met" director for the first time in "Jab Harry Met Sejal".

The upcoming romantic drama, which will release on August 4, will see Shah Rukh with his "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" and "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" heroine Anushka Sharma. The film has been widely shot in Prague, Amsterdam, Lisbon and Budapest.

"The film travels a lot... But it is not on travel. It's about a tourist guide, but it's a love story... Two people meet somehow, and somewhere down the line as they are moving around, they kind of fall in love," Shah Rukh told, giving an insight into what the movie is about.

"It was really nice because of two things, one -- Imtiaz knows Europe very well. So, we have shot the film in Budapest, Amsterdam, Prague and then Punjab... In a certain way, he reminds me of Mr. Yash Chopra because he writes love stories, which travel all over India too and have a Punjab taste. His writing is fantastic," the Bollywood Badshah said over phone from Mumbai.

Know why women are better at reading mind

Ever wondered how your wife or partner is able to read your thoughts and emotions just by looking at your eyes? Her ability to interpret may be the result of a gene influence, say researchers, one of Indian-origin.

know-why-women-are-better-at-reading-mind
The findings showed that the genetic variants on chromosome 3 in women are associated with their ability to read the mind in the eyes -- known as cognitive empathy.

The closest genes in this tiny stretch of chromosome 3 include LRRN1 (Leucine Rich Neuronal 1) which is highly active in a part of the human brain called the striatum -- which has been shown using brain scanning to play a role in cognitive empathy, the researchers said.

"This is an important step forward for the field of social neuroscience and adds one more piece to the puzzle of what may cause variation in cognitive empathy," said Varun Warrier, doctoral student at the University of Cambridge.

Scientists have built upon a study first performed 20 years ago, called the "Reading the Mind in the Eyes" test.

Eating red onions may help combat cancer

Dark red #onions, known as the richest source of dietary flavonoids, may help fight off #cancer of the colon and breast, a researchers has suggested.

eating-red-onions-may-help-combat-cancer
"We found that onions are excellent at killing cancer cells," said Abdulmonem Murayyan, doctoral student at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada.

"Onions activate pathways that encourage cancer cells to undergo cell death. They promote an unfavourable environment for cancer cells and disrupt communication between cancer cells, which inhibits growth," Murayyan added.

The findings, published recently in the journal Food Research International, revealed that red onions contain high levels of quercetin -- a plant polyphenol from the flavonoid group, found in many fruits, vegetables, leaves, and grains -- and include benefits such as lowering inflammation and fighting allergies, among others.

Further, red onions were also found to have high amounts of anthocyanin, which enriches the scavenging properties of quercetin molecules.

Eating in front of mirror may help you gain appetite

Having a meal in front of a mirror or even with a picture of yourself eating may be as good as taking food with a company and can make food more appealing as well as tastier, especially for the elderly, a study has showed.

eating-in-front-of-mirror-may-help-you-gain-appetite
When people eat food in a company, they tend to eat more of it than when they eat alone -- a phenomenon called "social facilitation of eating".

Various studies have shown that for older adults, enjoying food is associated with quality of life, and frequently eating alone is associated with depression and loss of appetite.

In the study, the researchers found that when people eating alone saw themselves reflected in a mirror, they reported food as tasting better, and ate more of it, compared with when they ate in front of a monitor displaying an image of a wall.

Owning a dog may make elderly more active

Owning a dog may help older adults meet physical activity levels recommended by the World Health Organisation #WHO of at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity, researchers suggest.

owning-dog-may-make-elderly-more-active
The study showed that dog owners aged 65 and over spent on average an additional 22 minutes walking, taking an extra 2,760 steps per day when compared to people who didn't own a dog.

"Over the course of a week this additional time spent walking may in itself be sufficient to meet WHO recommendations of at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity," said lead author Philippa Dall, doctoral student at Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland.

Further, dog owners had fewer sedentary events -- continuous periods of sitting down -- than non-dog owners.

Easy hairdos for instant wedding plans

Go for low bun, hairband braid or just accessorise your hairdo right to get ready for an instant #wedding plan, say experts.

easy-hairdos-for-instant-wedding-plans
Sidhika Gupta, Fashion Head, ROPOSO - a social media fashion platform, and Javed Khan, Creative Head, Be U Salons, share some easy to make hairstyles.

* Low bun: Tie the hair close to your nape in a ponytail, then roll your hair upwards in a bun and fix it with U-shaped hairpins. Fan the hair-bun evenly on both sides using your fingers tips.

* Hairband braid: For braiding, try skipping conditioning after shampoo. It might seem odd, but it makes a lot of difference in holding the braid better. Hairband braid is the sleekest way to keep your locks away from your face. Create tight braids with under each ear, wrap it across the edge of your hairline, and secure to back of the neck with bobby pins.

* Pixie: A pixie cut is a hairstyle generally short on the back and sides of the head and slightly longer on the top. You can accessorise this haircut with a headband.

* Double French twists: If you have thick hair make it a double with the double French twist; pump up the volume with a sock French twist; or take the easy route and do a messy French twist. Accessorise with fresh or silk flowers.

According to hair expert Aparna Santhanam, green apple, olive, sweet lime are good for hair care. She tells more:

* Green apple offers an effective treatment against dandruff. Make a paste using the leaves and skin of dandruff. Use this instead of your normal shampoo. It works effectively against dandruff. Massaging green apple juice on to your scalp regularly is also an effective treatment against dandruff.

It is very effective for better growth of hair, and making your hair strong. It prevents breakage and fights against hair loss.

* A hot oil treatment featuring olive oil will help you gain manageability so your hair is easier to style. Coat your hair in a half cup of olive oil and leaving for 30 minutes can give your hair the moisture it needs to return it to a more manageable state.
