Collectables from ace musicians to be auctioned in Mumbai

Collectables from ace musicians like #A_R_Rahman, #Shankar_Mahadevan, #Priyanka_Chopra, A Sivamani, Euphoria, Parikrama, Purbayan Chatterjee, Raghu Dixit and #Usha_Uthup are up for bidding at the #Hard_Rock_Cafe here on the occasion of the brand's 10th year anniversary.

The brand is housing a line-up of 72 events, with an evening of cocktails, music and a charity 'Bid and Buy' on November 30, read a statement.

The proceeds from auction would be channelled to Mewsic Stars, a programme under former Australian cricketer Brett Lee's Mewsic Initiative that empowers children to pursue their music passion. The curated event aims at rewarding passion, talent and ability among young but less fortunate children.

While Rahman has donated his studio headphones, Mahadevan has given his harmonium. Sivamani has donated his timbales drums, stand and a pair of autographed sticks.

Uthup has given her Kanjeevaram sari and microphone, Euphoria has given the bandmaster's hat, Dixit has given his guitar and Priyanka has donated her "Quantico" bracelet.

My films were ahead of their time: Dharmesh Darshan

Darshan told: "All my films even 'Lootere' (1993)...a lot of people find that it's ahead of its time. 'Dhadkan', 'Raja Hindustani' and all these films are so popular on satellite. I think my films and their music were ahead of their time. We didn't have item music as such that time. I am so happy my films are so relevant."

"I have shot the longest kissing scene in 'Raja Hindustani' and I have done it within the framework of popular cinema. I feel most people have got one dimensional and I have done it on a multi-dimensional level without limiting myself to any type," said Darshan, whose last film "Aap Ki Khatir" released in 2006.

The team created the "World's Largest Photobook" which measures 486 square feet in surface area. It is 18 feet tall and 27 feet wide.

'Rock On 2' hit by demonetisation, says Javed Akhtar

Lyricist and poet #Javed_Akhtar on Friday admitted that his son #Farhan_Akhtar starrer #Rock_On_2 was hit by demonetisation as the film released close to the November 8 decision by Prime Minister #Narendra_Modi to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.

"Rock on 2 was obviously affected by demonetisation," Javed Akhtar, who wrote the lyrics of the movie which fared poorly at the box office, told mediapersons here.

"It released (November 11) days after the decision was taken and failed to do well because 84 per cent of the currency was banned and people were struggling," he added. 

Asked about the much-anticipated Shah Rukh Khan starrer "Dear Zindagi", which opened on Friday, Javed Akhtar said: "Well I suppose the buying capacity and the spending capacity of an average citizen has become a bit shy that's for sure."

He also reasoned that the fact that "Dear Zindagi" is not a typical Shah Rukh film, the masses crazy for the superstar will take time to get a hang of it.

"In India, the organised retail sector is still very poor and corporate investments are tentative. Hence, for a designer in India to grow big in both stature and turnover, the only route option is bridal," Sabyasachi, who is known for pioneering the use of Indian textiles in a modern context, told in an e-mail interview.

Sharp drop in attendance at IFFI this year

Out of the 7,500-odd delegates who registered for the 47th edition of the IFFI in Goa, only 4,000 have actually turned up at the festival, with an official on Thursday suggesting that demonetisation could be one of the reasons for the drop in attendance.

This time round, 7,500 delegates had registered and around 4,000 delegates have picked up their ID cards. Normally, the difference between delegate registration and actual attendance at the event was around 1,500, said Ameya Abhyankar, Chief Executive Officer of the Entertainment Society of Goa, a state government agency responsible for the festival's logistics.

"There is a gap of around 1,000 to 1,500 between actual pick up and registration. So this is not something which is unusual," Abhyankar told a press conference at the event venue.

Everyday creative activities like writing poetry or making new recipes can boost well-being as well as creativity in young adults, new research has found.

"Engaging in creative behaviour leads to increases in well-being the next day, and this increased wellbeing is likely to facilitate creative activity on the same day," said lead researcher Tamlin Conner from University of Otago in New Zealand.

In their study, the researchers asked 658 university students to keep a daily diary of their experiences and emotional states over 13 days.

Oscar-Winning production designer Paul Sylbert passes away

Paul Sylbert, who shared an Oscar for the production design for Warren Beattys "Heaven Can Wait" and worked on notable films like "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest," is dead. He was 88.

Producer Hawk Koch, who worked with him on five films, said: "Paul was one of a kind. He was as smart and well-read as anyone I have ever come in contact with, and he was respected by all that knew him. Aside from the work, he loved music, literature, opera, and friends."

Sylbert shared a second nomination for the 1991 Barbra Streisand film "The Prince of Tides."
