How to ace the art of dating

It will help to keep your #first_date short and sweet, and most importantly non-committal, says an expert who has shared dating tips.

how-to-ace-art-of-dating
Sumesh Menon, Co-Founder and CEO of dating app WOO, tells you how to ace the art of dating:

* Don't over research: Try to avoid judging a person before a date. Don't over research about the person as you will end up with a tainted view of what you expect. The fun of going out is getting to know someone new, so allow yourself to let that happen organically.

* Go for like minded individuals: Sharing mutual interest with each other helps you to make your bond stronger. Try to open up to others and to get them to open up to you by listening to them and share your mutual interests as it works best to accomplish your goals.

How to flaunt fashion from 1980s era

It is time to take a cue for #fashion from the 1980s era. Go for tracksuits, add some ruffles and play with neons to get it right, says an expert.

how-to-flaunt-fashion-from-1980s-era
Shrestha Runthala, Myntra Fashion Stylist, lists some 1980s' dressing styles.

* Try the tracksuits: This 1980s trend fits right into the current Athleisure craze. Just avoid flashy colours that can be sighted from far away and pick neutral hues with a pop of colour. But if that isn't 1980s enough, try tracksuits of velvet or velour.

* Put power on the shoulders: Power shoulders will replace cold shoulders soon. So, give in to the 1980s bulk and carry some weight around. Choose from blazers, jackets and coats with padding around the clavicle.

I was totally flat, and I was so sad about it.

"Then automatically, overnight, my body changed drastically. I was a D cup and had a bigger b**t, and my waist was expanding. Everything was getting bigger. I automatically got this hate and judgment online."

'Maaya' not inspired by 'Fifty Shades Of Grey': Vikram Bhatt

Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, who explores the theme of #BDSM -- a variety of erotic practices or role playing involving bondage, discipline, dominance and submission -- in a new web-series titled #Maaya, says it's anything but inspired by international film #FiftyShadesofGrey.

maaya-not-inspired-by-fifty-shades-of-grey-vikram-bhatt
In an interview, Bhatt spoke about the reason behind doing the web-series and why making it as a feature film was not an option he considered. Excerpts:

Q. What prompted you to do a series on BDSM?

I was writing a book on this at first. Wrote a couple of chapters as well, but then I realised that it needed a visual medium. It's not as much about BDSM as it is about the internet and the anonymity that it gives. You give yourself a username and suddenly you are free of being yourself. You can be who you want and in that you end up becoming more yourself than you ever were. 'Maaya' is about that irony. To be your true self, you need to be anonymous.

Q. Do you think sexually deviant behaviour is now an integral part of our social structure?

I don't really have an answer to that. I know that the millennials have made it more acceptable, but there will always be the ones who will judge. I believe that whatever is safe, sane and consensual between two adults in the privacy of their bedrooms, is not deviant.

Q. Why did you do a web series on BDSM? Why not a feature film?

He added: "In fact, he had a plan brewing in his head and took two copies of the manuscript from me. One was for Amitabh Bachchan. He wanted a second copy for Aishwarya Rai since he felt she would enjoy and connect with the tales given her South Indian roots."

Suspi says Balki had an "interesting idea to promote this on the small screen and tried to put the whole project together".

"It wasn't that he would direct this. He graciously and voluntarily became the creative head of this project and decided to put the various pieces together for me. With time, certain things didn't materialise and this didn't take off," he said.

Over 80% Indian youngsters use smartphone for shopping: Study

More than eight in 10 young adults use their #smartphones for shopping, a survey has showed.

over-80-indian-youngsters-use-smartphone-for-shopping
The findings, by digital marketing firm Regalix, showed that a whopping 83 per cent used their advanced smartphones for some online retail shopping, emarketer.com reported on Wednesday.

Despite this, only a minority of smartphone shoppers were actually making a purchase with any significant frequency.

Only 28 per cent of respondents made a weekly purchase using their device.

One-third of those polled bought something via smartphone monthly, while one-quarter did so on a quarterly basis.

Further, 94 per cent respondents revealed that apps were more convenient than mobile websites.

However, citing the example of Myntra -- an apparel-focused e-commerce platform owned by Flipkart -- the study indicated that Indian consumers still prefer the flexibility of having the option of using either the mobile web or a native app.

Myntra took to an app-only platform in 2015, but re-launched its mobile site in early 2016.

Interestingly, just 19 per cent of smartphone users admitted to being influenced by mobile advertising.

Hairstyle trends to look fabulous

Bored of the same #hairstyle? Try for a retro chick look or for bold hair colours to make a statement, suggests an expert.

hairstyle-trends-to-look-fabulous
Tamanna Singh, Master Franchise Fashion TV salon (North India), has shared some of the hairstyling trends that may be a rage this season:

♦ Straight hair: Long, straight hair has always been a good choice among Indian girls as they can easily go for various hairstyle looks. The short, choppy hair cuts are no longer in style this year. 2017 is the year of gorgeous long hairstyles and cuts.

♦ Retro is back: The 1970s' retro hairstyles are also making a comeback, with straight hair parted down the middle. Letting your hair down will flatter your face and emanate romance. Flip the edges out for a little retro look.

♦ Hair colour ideas: The latest hairstyles feature lustrous coloured hair. Be brave, go for a flamboyant red or any other bright hue to make you look and feel more fabulous again.

♦ Braiding: Braids in all variants can give a nice twist. The most popular style like the French braid is a pretty easy one that you can do yourself. Start with brushing your hair back. Use a comb (or your fingers) to section your hair off in a 'V-formation' starting from your temples right up to the crown of your head. Then take three pieces of hair from that section and begin braiding them. Make sure to incorporate more hair from each side each time you cross the hair over.

How men can battle skin problems

With men becoming increasingly conscious about their looks, it can help to give specific attention to skin care, says an expert.

Using a natural face moisturiser and using right products can take care of the issues, says Josh Meyer, Co-Founder and CEO of Brickell Men's products. Some tips:

♦ Dry skin: Cold, dry air saps the moisture from your skin. The result is tight, flaky skin. It feels uncomfortable and does not look good at all. Prevent dehydration with a natural face moisturiser. For the best results, choose a natural, oil-free product that absorbs quickly. Most guys should use face moisturiser twice daily - once in the morning and then again at night before going to bed. It will hydrate your skin, keeping you feeling fresh throughout the day.

♦ If you are going to be outside, remember that the sun can dry out and damage your skin even during winter. The heat is not what causes trouble, it's those insidious UV rays. Always wear sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher if you will spend over 30 minutes outdoors.

♦ Shave irritation: Cold, dry conditions make shave irritation much worse. If you don't have a beard, you will need to take extra precautions to prevent razor bumps, redness, and itchiness.

Try exfoliating your skin before you shave. It will stand your hair away from your skin, reducing the chances of razor bumps. Exfoliating eliminates the layer of dead skin that can clog pores and cause irritation. Switch to a safety razor and use a lotion-based shave cream for the best results.

Get rid of underarm discoloration

If discoloration or darkening of skin in underarms is bothering you, don't fret as it can be tackled in different ways, says an expert.

Nivedita Dadu, dermatologist from Skinology Skin and Hair Clinic, tells how:

♦ First of all remove underarm hair. Your underarms can look dark because of the ingrown hair under skin. You can clear it by waxing but avoid shaving as shaving only removes the hair above skin and creates an illusion of darkness.

♦ Apply some skin lightening creams. Buy some good quality skin lightening products like scrubs that contain peptides and various natural extracts that help in removing the darkness of armpits. These scrubs should be used twice per week for removal of dirt and dead skin cells.

♦ Clean your underarms daily. Wash and clean underarms every day while taking bath. Washing it every day can make skin dry, and hence remember to moisturize it.

♦ Use aloe vera gel that can be used as a natural exfoliating product. Apply the aloe vera gel under your arms. This gel provides antioxidants and moisture that helps to clean our pits and make it soft.

♦ Potatoes are rich in a natural skin lightening enzyme called catecholase. This enzyme is very helpful in removing dark spots, scars and lightening dark skin. Take a potato and cut a thick slice from it. Rub this slice to your armpits for 15 minutes and then wash it. Repeat it daily for getting positive and more effective results.

The Oscar-winning actress also said that when she was growing up, she was "far more protected, but not empowered".

"She's politically engaged, which is surprising for someone her age and in her career. She's very, very responsible," elle.com quoted Kidman as saying.

She added: "She's good at keeping her boundaries and standing up for herself. If she doesn't believe in something, she says so. I could probably have learned from that at her age. I don't think I stood up for myself in the same way she does. Reese (Witherspoon) and I have both said it: It's a whole different world now.

"When we were growing up, we were far more protected, but we weren't as empowered. We weren't connected through knowledge, which is what social media gives you."

Kidman, Witherspoon and Woodley will be seen together in HBO's adaptation of Liane Moriarty's novel "Big Little Lies". Kidman is also the executive producer of the show along with Witherspoon. The comic drama follows life of a group of California women - mothers of first-graders at the same school - who are linked to a murder.

Rishi on Tuesday launched his autobiography, titled "Khullam Khulla - Rishi Kapoor Uncensored", here. He was joined by his wife Neetu Singh and daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahni.

In his autobiography, Rishi has revealed some of the unknown aspects of his life, right from his and his late father Raj Kapoor's affairs with co-stars to his belief on father-son relationship and his passion for acting.

"For me Raj Kapoor was not only a father. He was my guru, whatever I am today is because of him. When we were kids we knew that we were children of someone very important because wherever we went people looked at us as Raj Kapoor's sons," Rishi said at the launch.

"I never argued with my father and it so happened that unfortunately the same kind of relationship passed on with me and Ranbir. I really want that there should be love and respect between us.

"But I am not the type of guy, who will ask him (Ranbir) to share secrets of his girlfriends and all that. I am sorry. It's my failure. I want there to be a wall between me and him where I can see him, but can't feel him," he added.
