ways-to-find-perfect-sparkle-for-your-finger
The experts of Forevermark have rolled out a few tips on how to choose the perfect diamond ring.

*Colour: Diamonds occur naturally in all colours of the rainbow. Generally, the rarest diamonds are colourless. Polished diamonds are graded from ‘colourless' to ‘light colour'.This is universally known as the D (meaning ‘exceptional white') to Z (tinted colour). Make sure you try on the diamond jewellery as the colour may look different when worn. If purchasing a loose diamond, carefully place the diamond on the top of your hand and compare it with a similar diamond mounted in a ring.

Six tips on men's make-up

Men are no longer shying away from make-up and grooming products to conceal their blemishes, dark circles or oily shine. Follow six steps to look good and feel confident, says a make-up expert.

six-tips-on-mens-make-up
Make-up artist Vidya Tikari suggests how:

♦ A neat shave and a clean skin is way to start before you begin your make-up regime. Wash your face with luke warm water and exfoliate. Give some time before you exfoliate as a freshly shaven skin can be an irritant.

♦ Use a toner and pat on your skin in order to reinstate the natural pH level of your skin. Follow this up with moisturising your skin which could have a sunscreen property attached to it.

♦ The next in line is a concealer for the dark circles around the eyes. Since this is one of the understated products, men are most comfortable using. Foundation is also a good option as it is used to hide pimples, blemishes, uneven spots on the skin. A water-based foundation works better for men as they have big pores owing to their beard and moustache.

♦ A tinted moisturiser is another option to go with. This gives a mild glow to the skin giving it a healthy look. Couple it up with a light and clear lip balm which would prevent the skin from sun exposure while keeping it soft.

Dressing your baby in winter

A #babys_skin is delicate and sensitive and also loses moisture upto 5 times faster as compared to #adult_skin, making it more dry and vulnerable to damage in #winter_season. Hence, the utmost need for #moisturisation is more important for your baby along with a few other precautions.

dressing-your-baby-in-winter
Here are a few winter skin care tips from Uday Ananth Pai, Past-President of Indian Academy of Pediatrics - Mumbai and expert advisor to Baby Dove, on the best ways to ensure that your baby's skin is well nourished and stays moisturised through the dry winter months

♦ Bath time should be limited: Bathing dries your baby's skin as it removes natural oils along with the dirt. However, as long as you take some precautions, daily baths shouldn't be a problem. Always give your baby a quick bath. You can keep bubble baths and water play for special occasions. Use warm, rather than hot, water.

♦ Select the right soap: Use mild, pH neutral cleansers that are gentler on your baby's skin than regular soaps, especially those that help in restoring the moisture levels in a baby's delicate skin. Water-only baths work best if you live in a soft water area. If you live in a hard water area, then washing your baby with just water may actually dry out his skin.

♦ Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise: We know that it's important to moisturize your baby's skin all year long. But, cold waves in winters may result in chapping, redness and irritation on your baby's skin. Furthermore, the use of heaters, can rob your baby's skin of its natural moisture. Use a baby lotion that goes beyond mildness.

5 tips to avoid obesity trap

Owing to people's #lifestyles, eating fast food has become an essential part of their life. Most people are also tired to exercise because of the tight work schedules, ultimately leading to obesity. Try out five ways to avoid excess body fat, says an expert.

tips-to-avoid-obesity-trap
Vandana Luthra, Founder and Vice-chairperson, VLCC, suggests how:

♦ Eat breakfast every day, it is the most important meal of a day.

♦ Watch out for empty calories and take food which are low on sugar and fat content. It is important to get a balanced diet with fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains included in it.

♦ Exercise daily for a minimum of 30 minutes as it helps to reduce body fat as well as protect one against chronic diseases associated with obesity like diabetes, heart disease. It will also help to decrease stress and high blood pressure. Exercising is good to decrease fat around the waist and total body fat which will slow the development of abdominal obesity.

♦ Get enough sleep on a daily basis as irregular bedtime and insufficient sleep lead to weight gain. Sleep-deprived people may be too tired to exercise, decreasing the "calories burned" side of the weight-change equation.

Why are humans constantly interested in sex

Have you ever wondered why are we constantly interested in sex while most animals have periods when they come into heat, and outside these periods they do not find #sex_interesting at all? A new study says that the reason we function this way is because sex serves as a "glue" in a committed relationship.

why-are-humans-constantly-interested-in-sex
Sex is important for pair-bonding between men and women in relationships and not just mere waste of energy, the study said.

"The function of sex in humans outside ovulation is an evolutionary mystery. But we believe that it has to do with binding the parties in the relationship together," said Leif Edward Ottesen Kennair, Professor of psychology at Norwegian University of Science and Technology.

The researchers also found that commitment in relationship and the type of oral contraceptive women use are linked to how often couples have sex.

For the study researchers asked hundreds of Norwegian heterosexual women about contraception, sex and relationships.

The results showed that of women in long-term relationships and who are using hormonal contraception, those who are more committed to their relationships have more sex with partners.

"But this association was especially true when the contraceptive that women used had potent levels of synthetic hormones that mimic the effects of the natural hormone progesterone, and lower levels of the hormone estrogen," Steve Gangestad, Professor at University of New Mexico.

Brain activity may predict risk of falls in elderly

Measuring the level of #brain_activity in healthy older adults while they are walking can predict their risk of falling, suggests a study led by an Indian-origin scientist.

brain-activity-may-predict-risk-of-falls-in-elderly
Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries among older adults and all too often lead to physical decline and loss of independence.

"Previous studies have shown that when older people perform cognitively demanding tasks, their brains are required to become more active to handle the challenge," said lead author Joe Verghese, Director at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, US.

The new study found that people whose brain activity level increases when carrying out any other task while walking were more likely than others to fall, Verghese added.

In addition, changes in brain activity that influence walking may be present long before people exhibit any sign of walking difficulty, he added.

For the study, the team involved 166 older adults with an average age of 75. All participants were healthy, with no signs of dementia, disability, or problems with walking.

The researchers measured their brain activity, as they performed three different tasks: walking at a normal pace, reciting alternate letters of the alphabet while standing and walking at a normal pace while simultaneously reciting alternate letters of the alphabet.

Simple tips to be winter ready

Ready for the new winter look but not ready enough to go out in the cold? While the #winter_season is all about enveloping yourself in cozy quilts, sitting by the heater and sipping hot beverages, it's also about dealing with dry skin, chapped lips and cracked heels.

simple-tips-to-be-winter-ready
Chandirka Mahenrda, Principal Scientist, Personal Care, the Himalaya Drug Company, has shared ways to be ready this winter season.

♦ Nourish the skin from within: Feeling your parched skin and moisturising it minute-to-minute can be a little annoying. So, in order to keep your skin soft and supple, all you need is an intensive skin care regime, including cocoa butter. A cocoa butter moisturiser preferably herbal in nature, once applied, not only provides day-long nourishment but seeps through the cracks of your skin and deeply nourishes it from within.

♦ Moisturise your skin well: So, you have your wardrobe ready for winters and you've managed to pull off the best attire amongst your peers, but have you checked your face before leaving the house? While you can apply make-up to your best, a good cream is a must that not only keeps your skin hydrated all day long but can also be used as base to keep your make-up intact.

How to get happy feet this winter!

The winter season can be a nightmare for our feet as they are the main victims to the chilly weather. Rough and cracked heels can be very painful to deal with. One must moisturise the affected area and massage with #olive_oil.

how-to-get-happy-feet-this-winter
Hariprasad, expert at The Himalaya Drug Company, gives five hacks that you can use to keep your feet silky smooth:

♦ Moisturise the affected area twice a day: Moisturise your feet twice every day with a gentle moisturiser. This will help in keeping the feet from getting rough and dry.

♦ Honey and warm water therapy: Soak your feet in a warm water basin mixed with honey and gently scrub the affected area. Honey is one of the main ingredient in Ayurveda for its bactericidal and antiseptic properties. Honey is also an effective moisturising agent.

♦Massage with olive oil: Massaging olive oil on the affected area of your feet will help in moisturising the cracked area and will help in stimulating circulation. Olive oil has been used while bathing for centuries to keep the skin smooth and nourished.

♦ Wear cotton socks: It's always better to protect your grieving feet from pollution and dust. Always wear cotton socks to aid good air circulation.

Wear suitable footwear for your different wedding functions

Complement your dresses with the suitable #footwear during your #wedding functions. Opt for neutral pumps, strappy block heels, mojaris at different functions, says an expert.

wear-suitable-footwear-for-your-different-wedding-functions
Sidhika Gupta, Fashion Head at Roposo, a fashion and lifestyle social network, has rolled out suggestions for you to rock at your wedding comfortably:

♦ Pre-wedding shoot: Begin the madness with an everlasting pair of neutral pumps. Matte or glossy, doesn't matter. They look modern, classy and chic with all western as well as ethnic outfits.

♦ Bachelorette: A pair of multi-strap block heels is the right choice to strike a balance between glamour and grace for your bachelorette. It's the day to put pre-wedding jitters to rest and let your hair down guilt-free with your friends.

♦ Haldi: The reason behind the contagious smile of a bride is a gorgeous pair of shoes. Suit yourself by choosing from a range of Mojaris, Juttis, or Kolhapuris but whichever way you go, remember it needs to be tasteful, colorful, beaded, stunningly embroidered or intricately embellished.

They suit best on Patialas, kurtis, and all kinds of salwar-kameez.

♦ Mehendi: Go for the season's favourite mules for your mehendi day - perfect pick to avoid unfortunate tripping or messy strap twisting, as you would like to be hassle and fuss free in an already henna - full constrained state.

The typical wedding material, flat mules, will give you the much need comfort, style, and flexibility.

♦ Cocktail or Sangeet: Wedges are the shoes best fitted to dance the night away. The mighty wedge will allow you to remain sturdy even as you flaunt your most elaborated dance moves without sacrificing the added inches.

♦ Wedding: embellished heels: Peep toes will assure the right peek-a- boo to your pedicured toes. Don't forget to try your wedding footwear with your bridal outfit, choose the heel height and vamp size as per your lehenga and comfort.

Sanjay Dutt carries his comfort outfit with élan

Talking about his fashion sense, Shah, who has styled actresses like Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam, told: "The secret to Sanjay Dutt's on-point style isn't a list of what's trending, it's as easy as a perfectly flattering bootcut jeans.

"With his charismatic personality, he carries his comfort outfit with so much élan that it looks drop-dead fashionable each time he dons it."

Why most of us 'remember' events that never happened

Repeatedly hearing fake events of the past such as taking a hot air balloon ride, playing a prank on a teacher or creating havoc at a family wedding during childhood, may push people into imagining them and believing that which never happened, researchers say.

why-most-of-us-remember-events-that-never-happened
In a study conducted on false memories, more than 400 participants were suggested fictitious autobiographical events, nearly 50 per cent believed, to some degree, that they had experienced those events.

Thirty per cent of participants appeared to 'remember' the event, they accepted the suggested event, elaborated on how the event occurred, and even described images of what the event was like.

Another 23 per cent showed signs that they accepted the suggested event to some degree and believed it really happened.

It can be very difficult to determine when a person is recollecting actual past events, as opposed to false memories, even in a controlled research environment and more so in real life situations, said Kimberley Wade from University of Warwick in Britain.

The study may have significance in many areas such as raising questions around the authenticity of memories used in forensic investigations, court rooms and therapy treatments.

However, misinformation in the news can create incorrect collective memories that can affect behaviour and attitudes of society, the researchers explained.

Give a twist in taste to Norwegian salmon

Ever eaten #Norwegian_salmon given a desi twist in flavour? How about having #Amritsari_tawa_salmon or #Norwegian_salmon_kebab with coriander yoghurt for a change in taste?

give-twist-in-taste-to-norwegian-salmon
The Norwegian Seafood Council for India in collaboration with lifestyle superstore Foodhall at DLF Place Saket organised a live kitchen event here that celebrated the season of fresh, wild-caught salmon with an Indian twist.

During the session, the chefs came up with some interesting recipes and taught how to cook the Norwegian salmon with Indian spices and masalas and presented dishes like smoked Norwegian salmon with rice salad, tender Norwegian salmon kebab served with coriander yoghurt and Amritsari tawa salmon presented with Pindi chana and onion rings.

Norwegian salmon is prized by chefs and food lovers around the world for its flavour and versatility. It can be steamed, fried, grilled and even enjoyed as a curry - and that is its speciality. Norwegian salmon is growing immensely popular among Indian and Asian food lovers owing to its versatility of cooking.

All the dishes carried a perfect balance of Indian spices and while the taste of Indian spices was evident, it did not kill the salmon's original flavour.

"People are not aware of how easily salmon can be cooked and easily moulded in multiple flavours. More events like this should be organised more to highlight the variety of flavours that can be added to salmon," Yogi Shergill, Vice Counsel, Royal Norwegian Consulate and Director India told.

Shergill further highlighted that Norwegian salmon, which comes in frozen containers, can be easily preserved in a freezer for 18 months at -18 degrees Celsius while if bought fresh - which is usually transported by air - should be completed within eight days.

Be your own make-up artist on friend's D-Day

If you don't wish to spend extra money hiring a beautician to look your best on your friend's wedding day, you can do your own make-up and still look flawless, says an expert.

be-your-own-make-up-artist-on-friends-d-day
Manisha Chopra, Co-Founder of SeaSoul Cosmeceuticals, has shared a few tips to get the perfect look:

♦ Experiment with your looks: Prior to your friend's wedding, conduct multiple trials at home with your beauty essentials along with your attire. Also, do not forget to click pictures under different kinds of lighting to understand which make-up will suit your face and skin tone the best. This way, you will be able to figure out whether to tone down your make-up or not.

♦ Cleansing and moisturising: Make sure you cleanse and moisturise your skin well before you apply any kind of make-up. A moisturiser will act as a base to the make-up applied and prevent your dry skin from absorbing the products or settle into your wrinkles and fine lines. After you are done with moisturising your skin, use a primer as it helps to blur all the imperfections and makes your make-up last longer.

♦ Use products that will stay for long: Long lasting and waterproof products are a must if you want the make-up to last the whole day. After all, it is your friend's wedding, which means you need to be present for all the functions from morning to evening. So, use products that can help in keeping your make-up remain intact through the sweat, dust, tears and hugs.

♦ Keep a damp sponge or brush handy: Apply the foundation with a damp sponge or brush as this will give a sheer finish to your look. Avoid using hands to apply foundation as it can leave fingerprints and will not give you the desired finish. Choose the right foundation that matches your skin tone. A foundation will also help to hide your wrinkles and pores. Blend the foundation well onto your jaw lines, neck and chest. The blemishes or spots on your face can be hidden with the help of a concealer.

Suresh Kumar Mansukhani, Country Manager - Indian SubContinent, Junckers - a Denmark based flooring brand, suggests how:

* Low humidity levels can cause wood floors to shrink leaving gaps within the wood. To protect from separation and gapping, try to keep the thermostat in your house at a consistent temperature and avoid turning your heat up and down frequently.

* Shoes and boots are the leading cause of unwanted dirt and sludge. This will help to leave unwanted slush outside. Also, ask your friends and relatives to leave their shoes at the door in order to protect your beautiful floors.

winter-skincare-avoid-exfoliation-stay-away-from-heaterDropping the usage of scrubs to once a month and staying away from the heater to avoid dryness are some of the basic steps one should take for that radiant and beautiful you, suggest experts.

Blossom Kochhar, Chairperson, Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies, says that during winters, one should totally avoid using harsh things on their skin like astringents and soaps as they strip the skin of all the natural oil.

"Instead, one should resort to cleansing milk, lotions throughout winters," she told.

She also suggested not to sit close to the heater.

"It damages your skin a lot and makes it too dry. But if you cannot avoid it just put a bowl of water near the heater as it will balance the moisture in the air," she said.

Shikhee Agrawal, Head Training, The Body Shop, says that whipping winds, dry air and chilly temperature can really be harsh on your soft skin so its important to use a serum to keep your skin hydrated.
