Film on Asian-Americans of World War II era on Fukunaga's mind

Primetime Emmy award-winning American filmmaker #Cary_Fukunaga, who has roots in Japan, says he wishes to push out films with Asian-Americans as central characters. After telling the tale of child soldiers in Africa in his 2015 war drama "Beasts of No Nation", the 39-year-old wants to share what his grandparents and other Asian-Americans of that generation went through between 1939 and 1945. But he is yet to develop any project.

"One day, I would like to do a story about my grandparents' generation who were Asian-Americans. They were put in camps during World War II. My father was born in a concentration camp in America because they (his family) were Japanese.

"My grandparents were protestors so, they were put in a more militarized camp that was under the Martial law," Fukunuga, who is here for Jio MAMI 18th Mumbai Film Festival with Star, told.

Asked about the Hollywood 'whitewashing' row, he said: "Hollywood is not one unit. It is an industry. I haven't faced any sort of prejudices in terms of my work. I grew up with a very difficult name to pronounce for most of the Americans. I definitely experienced racism as a child."

Add eggs to salads to boost vitamin E absorption

Adding whole eggs to a colourful salad boosts the amount of vitamin E the body absorbs from the vegetables, says a study.

add-eggs-to-salads-to-boost-vitamin-e-absorption
"We found vitamin E absorption was four- to seven-fold higher when three whole eggs were added to a salad," said Jung Eun Kim from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana US.

"This study is novel because we measured the absorption of Vitamin E from real foods, rather than supplements, which contain mega-dose amounts of Vitamin E," Kim noted.

Vitamin E, which is absorbed along with dietary fats, is often found in oils, seeds and nuts.

The faces and silhouettes of mythological characters have forever adorned jewellery pieces. But what has changed about their designing over the years?

♦For family gatherings/dinner: A family gathering in the festive season calls for a combination of comfort and glamour. This allows you to change your look over the course of the day -- detaching the chandeliers in the early part of the day to keep it simple and sophisticated while amping up the bling factor for the evening.

Air pollution may cause damage in blood vessels

Increased exposure to air pollution may cause damage and inflammation to blood vessels among young and healthy adults and thus raise the risk of cardiovascular disease and other related deaths, say researchers, including one of Indian-origin.

air-pollution-may-cause-damage-in-blood-vessels
The study revealed how air pollution actually affects the blood vessels to increase the risk of disease, which was previously unknown.

The researchers found that periodic exposure to fine particulate matter was associated with several abnormal changes in the blood that are markers for cardiovascular disease.

As air pollution rose, they found small, micro-particles indicating cell injury and death significantly increased in number, levels of proteins that inhibit blood vessel growth increased, and proteins that signify blood-vessel inflammation also showed significant increases.

It's Diwali and time for special beauty care

The festive season is here again! Soon it will be Diwali. Start taking care of the skin and hair a few weeks before. Night-time cleansing is an absolute must, especially for city dwellers.

its-diwali-and-time-for-special-beauty-care
Chemical air pollutants, dirt and grime hang in the air. They are potent skin irritants. Make-up should also be removed at night. All these can cause dryness of the skin, or disrupt the normal acid-alkaline balance of the skin, leading to rashes and other eruptive conditions, like pimples and acne.

As Diwali approaches, the weather also changes. Seasonal changes also influence the skin. The humidity becomes less and the skin loses moisture to the atmosphere. So, one needs to keep the skin moisturised and also protect it from sun-exposure.

For normal to dry skin, cleanse twice a day, with a cleansing gel containing ingredients like aloe vera. Massage the cleanser lightly into the skin and remove it with moist cotton wool. Then apply rose water or a skin tonic using cotton wool. During the day, use a sunscreen before going out in the sun. Or, use a moisturiser if you are indoors. Moisturisers are available in cream and liquid form. For dry skin, at night, after cleansing, apply a nourishing cream and massage it on the face. Wipe off with moist cotton wool. You can apply a serum afterwards.

Psychopathy, sometimes also known as sociopathy, is traditionally defined as a personality disorder characterised by persistent antisocial behaviour, impaired empathy and remorse, and bold, disinhibited, egotistical traits.

The study recently published in the journal Law and Human Behaviour also showed that people with psychopathic tendencies tended to drink more alcohol.

However, it is their personality traits more than substance use that is associated with violence, the researchers stated.

muscle-strength-may-help-to-improve-brain-function
MCI defines people who have reduced cognitive abilities such as reduced memory, but are still able to live independently. It is a precursor to Alzheimer's disease.

The findings published in the Journal of American Geriatrics show a positive causal link between muscle adaptations to progressive resistance training and the functioning of the brain among those over the age of 55 with MCI.

"What we found in this follow-up study is that the improvement in cognition function was related to their muscle strength gains. The stronger people became, the greater the benefit for their brain," said Yorgi Mavros, researcher at the University of Sydney, Australia.

Sleeping beside your baby can cause cot death

Incidents that really happened? I was told by the censor board that these things never happened! I was asked to beep out a simple 'saala' from the soundtrack when 'Udta Punjab' was allowed the ugliest expletives abuses and profanities that mankind has ever uttered," Sachdeva said.

Reema Arora, Medical Head Facial Aesthetic, Cocoona Centre of Aesthetic Transformation, has shared a few tips on skincare:

♦ Eat fresh vegetables and fruits always, no matter the season or your schedule. This keeps your essential supply of vitamins intact and also keeps the bowel movement good, contributing to general health and good skin.

♦ Make sure that you remove your make-up and cleanse and moisturise your skin well before going to bed. Residual make-up often causes break-outs and can harm the skin.

♦ Wash your face at least twice a day with a gentle, foaming face wash to avoid dust from sticking to your skin. If it is not possible for you to keep a face wash with you, then keep facial wipes that suit your skin and use them often to wipe clean your face.
