* For a sultry look go for taupes and greys.

* The 1990s are not yet to take a backseat, so go will with good gold glittery lips and good amount of highlighter.

Details, research must for good story telling: 'Bareilly Ki Barfi' director

Director #Ashwiny_Iyer_Tiwari, whose #BareillyKiBarfi is set for release next month, says research and details are important to good story-telling.

details-research-must-for-good-story-telling
"I feel as a story-teller your research and detailing has to be perfect.. especially if your film is a 'slice of life' film," said Ashwiny during a media interaction here on Thursday on the occasion of birthday celebration of film's lead actress Kriti Sanon, along with the entire cast and crew at Mehboob Studios.

"My films always have detailing as we do lot of research. When I was in advertising, I used to handle a lot of brands where we used to research in UP, MP, Bihar and Odisha. So it comes automatically to me," she said.

Asked from where the story for "Bareilly Ki Barfi" came, she said: "The story came through me but then (co-writers) Nitesh and Shreyas developed it further. Like any other writer-director team, we also work together. But Nitesh is very good with dialogues.

"While working together, we try to enhance other's talent rather than interfering in the work. When I am directing, I can change the screenplay, visuals but I always make sure I don't touch the dialogues as they come from insight. Each and every line is written with a lot of thinking and so it's important to do justice to them."

"Partition is a very sensitive subject. People will have strong reations to it. It's a film about peace, about humanity. It's intended to unite people rather than divide. Some people want to say something... that's really their choice," she told the media here on Wednesday in response to the criticism it has garnered.

The film, released as "Viceroy's House" outside India earlier this year, tells the story of India's partition. It stars Qureshi, Manish Dayal, late Om Puri, Denzil Smith, Huge Bonneville and Gillian Anderson among others.

Of all the criticisms levelled at the film, one of the strongest has come from Pakistani writer Fatima Bhutto, granddaughter of Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and niece of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

In a review in The Guardian, Bhutto had slammed the film for belittling leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi and Mohammad Ali Jinnah and painting Muslims in a bad picture.

No Medium can replace books says Javed Akhtar

Eminent writer and lyricist #Javed_Akhtar launched Kainaz Jussawalla’s debutante novel ‘Coffee Days Champagne Nights And Other Secrets’ on Monday in Mumbai. While interacting with media, Javed Akhtar stated that no medium can replace books.

Talking about importance of books to garner any kind of information or knowledge, Akhtar said, “Now day’s life has been kind of fanatic speed. Everything is either googled or found on their smart phones. People have hardly any time for books leave aside writing. They don’t have time for reading but I suppose, no medium can replace books. Today I see most of the children on I pads or they are watching TV but the difference between an I pad which is audio-visual medium and the book is that, you are given a fixed menu. There is no participation of viewer. Viewer is the only receiver but when you are reading a book, particularly fiction, that time you are making your own locations in your mind, faces of characters, sets of houses so when you read the book your imagination enriches and it gets exercise which doesn’t happen when everything is provided to you. For that, you have to use your own energy and mind. People want easy way out and they want everything on platter which I feel is not correct”.

When asked him inspiration behind writing great scripts and lyrics, Akhtar replied, “It’s not a surprise that I write. It would have been surprising if I wouldn’t have become a writer. I come from a family of writers. I am 6th generation who is into writing. My children also write. Farhan has started writing lyrics in English. Zoya is also poet. Both of them write their own film’s scripts and they are our 7th generation in writing. I have inherited these skills from mother’s and fathers’ side. I suppose, if some people are doing something for generations then to some extent, the child must be programmed to do that. I was interested in reading right from my early childhood and that’s how it all started”.

Talking about being part of Raagdesh, Kunal said, “It is one of the important part of our history which played important role in independence struggle of India and getting associated with such film is very proud moment for us.”

The film has war drama, courtroom drama, emotions, romance, and bromance. I feel after watching this film people will realize the contribution of Indian National Army (INA) and Subhash Chandra Bose in freedom fight of India. If you read British intelligence of that time then you will know that formation of India National Army (INA) was the biggest reason which is why Britisher’s left our country.”

Recently, Raagdesh screened at Rashtrapati Bhavan for giving farewell to India’s outgoing president Pranab Mukherjee, when asked about the experience. Kunal said, “It was amazing experience for our team. We had lots of fun. President was very warm with us.
