The findings showed that those who had desk jobs had a bigger waist circumference -- 97 cm compared to 94 cm in people without desk jobs. They also had approximately one body mass index (BMI) unit difference.

Further, they had a higher risk of cardiovascular disease -- 2.2 per cent compared to 1.6 per cent in people without desk jobs, over ten years.

In addition, each extra hour of sitting from five hours a day, increased the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and decreased good cholesterol (HDL).

"Longer time spent in sedentary posture is significantly associated with larger waist circumference, higher triglycerides (fat in the blood) and lower HDL cholesterol, all adding up to worse risk of heart disease," said William Tigbe from University of Warwick in Britain.

The findings, published in The Journal of Nutrition, revealed that Vitamin D stimulates calcium absorption, which is beneficial for building bones and preventing bone loss overtime. 

The research could lead to better care for people over 50 years of age diagnosed with osteoporosis -- a disease characterised by low bone mass and progressive deterioration of bone tissue. 

For those affected, osteoporosis can lead to increased risk of fracture, loss of physical function, decreased quality of life and even death, the researchers said.

"This study is significant because in addition to milk intake, it also examined the association of other dairy foods such as yogurt, cheese and cream with bone mineral density and bone loss over time," said lead author Shivani Sahni, from the Hebrew Senior Life's Institute for Aging Research -- Harvard affiliated medical care for elderly in US.

Statins work by lowering cholesterol levels in patients and are usually prescribed by doctors to help prevent heart attacks or strokes. 

According to previous studies, statins have claimed a role in preventing cancer development, or prolonging the survival of patients with several common cancers, including lung cancer. 

"It's becoming increasingly common for patients with increased cholesterol to take statins and many cancer patients will be or have been prescribed these drugs entirely separately from their cancer treatment," said Michael Seckl, Professor at Imperial College London. 

However, the new study showed that the drugs do not, in fact, benefit lung cancer patients at all.

Although there were no adverse effects from taking statins, there were no advantages either, the researchers said.

The study showed that parents and children often have much different perceptions of and reactions to the same online situations.

"There seems to be a disconnect between what types of situations teenagers experience every day and what types of experiences parents have online," said Pamela Wisniewski, Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida in the US.

"Teenagers tended to be more nonchalant and say that the incident made them embarrassed, while parents, even though they were reporting more low-risk events, emoted much stronger feelings, becoming angry and scared.

"For teenagers, some felt these types of experiences were just par for the course," Wisniewski added, in the study, presented at the ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing in Oregon.

"We are familiar with such a process from other stereotypes, like ethnicity and gender where sometimes the stereotypical expectations of others affect who we become," said lead author Yonat Zwebner, doctoral student at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel. 

"For instance, people are more likely to imagine a person named Bob to have a rounder face, than a person named Tim. 

"These stereotypes can, over time, affect people's facial appearance," Zwebner added.

Further, this might also be due to people subconsciously altering their appearance to conform to cultural norms and cues associated with their names -- like changing the areas of the face, such as hairstyle.

The British Council has launched the UK India Year of Culture, a celebration of the longstanding relationship between India and Britain.

"I'm not attacking anyone. I'm trying to create more inclusiveness, compassion and empathy -- which in turn makes better movies, better art," she added.

"If you are on social media, you should be prepared for abuse," he said at the trailer launch of "Sarkar 3" on Wednesday, in response to a query if expressing oneself on social media platforms is a challenge nowadays. 

"And I enjoy it," he quipped.

However, the megastar declined to comment on the controversy over Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur.

"What I feel about the situation is completely my personal opinion. But if I disclose, it will become public," he said.

"I feel alive because I feel I am in the best phase of my life. I am a happy person and always look out for positivity," she said on Wednesday at the launch ceremony of a channel, which is a collaboration of Sony Pictures and BBC. 

Being the brand ambassador of the newly-launched channel, the 36-year old star thanked the Sony and BBC Earth and said that she was four months pregnant while shooting the advertisement for the channel.

"My son would be feeling alive when he will know about this fact," she added.

Condon said the character Belle's suitor Gaston has an admirer in the form of his manservant LeFou (essayed by Josh Gad) in the musical film, reports independent.co.uk.

"LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston," Condon told Attitude magazine.

"He's confused about what he wants. It's somebody who's just realising that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that's what has its pay-off at the end, which I don't want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie," he added.

Calling the sportspersons India's pride, Goel took to Twitter to respond to Akhtar, which read: "Please don't call our players illiterate. You're a champion in your field and they are champions in their own field. India is proud of them!"

Earlier, Akhtar had voiced support for Gurmehar, who is in the eye of a storm over her stance against student outfit Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and a video campaign advocating peace between India and Pakistan.

Akhtar's comments came in the wake of Gurmehar facing criticism from noted sportspersons like cricketer Virender Sehwag and Olympic medallist wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt. 

"If a hardly literate player or a wrestler troll a pacifist daughter of a martyr its understandable but whats wrong with some educated folks." Akhtar wrote.

The India Today conclave explores the concept of ‘The Great Disruption' for its 16th edition. It will be held for the first time here on March 17-18.

The conclave will also witness the worldwide premiere of short films by Sudhir Mishra, Nandita Das, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Ram Madhvani.
