commando-2-it-takes-bollywood-action-to-the-next-level
After a week of drudgery at the theatres when we were coaxed into wading through a self-designed epic slush on war and love, it is such a welcome relief to go to the theatres just to have an unpretentious good time. No offence meant. None taken.

Come, unwind with Vidyut as he cracks some serious bones and FERA codes, brings India's wealth back into the country and saves civilisation from catastrophe. All done in the vein of a comic book hero who forgot his cape in transit.

Okay, Vidyut is ambitious, and sorry to say, he can't act. He can fight like a wild untamed beast, though. His reflexes in the action scenes, specially in the hand-to-hand combat with actor Thakur Anoop Singh at the climax on the rooftop of skyscraper, are to die for. Some do. But the deaths are neither gruesome nor bloody. The popcorn never needs to feel guilty in this actioner.

Holi-proof your skin organically

Bringing a customised skincare regime into play before #Holi, can go a long way in keeping your skin free of damage and stains, says an expert.

holi-proof-your-skin-organically
Garima Singh, Research and Development Manager at Organic Harvest, lists some measures that should be taken.

* Lip care: For soft luscious lips post-Holi, it's essential to take certain necessary precautionary steps.

Coat your lips with a thick protective layer of lip balm which heroes either shea butter or pomegranate. Shea butter locks dampness and prevents lips from drying out while pomegranate is known for its rich, natural moisturising quality.

Either way both are great go-to ingredients that protect the skin from toxic colours seeping in through the cracks while keeping them well-nourished at the same time.

Why a sitting job is bad for your heart and waist

Do you have a desk-bound job? Beware, you may be at a heightened risk of developing #cardiovascular_diseases by 0.2 per cent and an increase in waist circumference by two cm, for every additional hour of sitting on top of five hours, researchers warned.

why-sitting-job-is-bad-for-your-heart-and-waist
The findings showed that those who had desk jobs had a bigger waist circumference -- 97 cm compared to 94 cm in people without desk jobs. They also had approximately one body mass index (BMI) unit difference.

Further, they had a higher risk of cardiovascular disease -- 2.2 per cent compared to 1.6 per cent in people without desk jobs, over ten years.

In addition, each extra hour of sitting from five hours a day, increased the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and decreased good cholesterol (HDL).

"Longer time spent in sedentary posture is significantly associated with larger waist circumference, higher triglycerides (fat in the blood) and lower HDL cholesterol, all adding up to worse risk of heart disease," said William Tigbe from University of Warwick in Britain.

skincare-tips-for-holi
Blossom Kochhar, Chairperson, Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies, lists some tips which can make your life easy on Holi:

♦ Before getting your hair dirty with all the colours and harmful chemicals, it is really important to oil your hair properly to save them from all the damage. Therefore, try this nourishing oil. Mix two tablespoon almond oil, two drops of lavender essential oil, a drop of rose essential oil and two or three drops of lemon and apply.

♦ Always remember to braid your hair before playing with colours as it reduces the chances of colour seeping in your scalp.

♦ Applying a sunscreen before playing Holi is a must as it is really easy to get tanned.

♦ For men also, it is really important to take care of their beard. Apply coconut oil/mustard oil/almond oil before playing Holi.

Dairy foods, vitamin D supplements may prevent bone loss

Older adults who take #Vitamin_D supplements along with specific dairy foods such as #milk, #yogurt and #cheese may have higher bone mineral density in their spine as well as guard them against #bone_loss in the hip, researchers led by one of Indian-origin has found.

dairy-foods-vitamin-d-supplements-may-prevent-bone-loss
The findings, published in The Journal of Nutrition, revealed that Vitamin D stimulates calcium absorption, which is beneficial for building bones and preventing bone loss overtime.

The research could lead to better care for people over 50 years of age diagnosed with osteoporosis -- a disease characterised by low bone mass and progressive deterioration of bone tissue.

For those affected, osteoporosis can lead to increased risk of fracture, loss of physical function, decreased quality of life and even death, the researchers said.

"This study is significant because in addition to milk intake, it also examined the association of other dairy foods such as yogurt, cheese and cream with bone mineral density and bone loss over time," said lead author Shivani Sahni, from the Hebrew Senior Life's Institute for Aging Research -- Harvard affiliated medical care for elderly in US.

Statins may not help lung cancer patients

Cholesterol-lowering drugs known as #statins when used alongside #chemotherapy_treatments may have no effect on the outcome for patients with #lung_cancer, a study has found.

statins-may-not-help-lung-cancer
Statins work by lowering cholesterol levels in patients and are usually prescribed by doctors to help prevent heart attacks or strokes.

According to previous studies, statins have claimed a role in preventing cancer development, or prolonging the survival of patients with several common cancers, including lung cancer.

"It's becoming increasingly common for patients with increased cholesterol to take statins and many cancer patients will be or have been prescribed these drugs entirely separately from their cancer treatment," said Michael Seckl, Professor at Imperial College London.

However, the new study showed that the drugs do not, in fact, benefit lung cancer patients at all.

Although there were no adverse effects from taking statins, there were no advantages either, the researchers said.

How to get the denim look right

Ultra-skinny #jeans paired with long slit tops and block-heeled booties or a wide leg, high-waist one teamed up with crop tops and pointed heels, #denims can complement any look. You just need to find the right fit and style, says an expert.

how-to-get-denim-look-right
Bhavya Chawla, Chief Stylist, Voonik, a fashion app for women, suggests how:

♦ Spot the fabric carefully: It's time to stop wearing denims that are stretchable and have legging-like fits as we have had too much of them this winter. Instead, with the summer season approaching, pick rigid and vintage-inspired denims that can give you the old-school feel.

♦ Go easy with the hems: Most people agree that slim-cut jeans are the hot favourite for every body type, but this season is not about restrictive ankle cuts. If you are willing to make a style impact, go for wider and breezier hems. From ultra-wide legs, cropped flares to the 1970s' bell-bottoms and boot-cut shapes, the choices are enough to make you turn your back towards the shelves housing ankle-strangling fits.

♦ Figure out the wash of the fabric: If easy distressing denims were your thing, it's time to get over with them as white, ivory and sand-coloured jeans are here to stay now. Make a faded pair for yourself or go for a deeper, darker wash. You can experiment with a faded pair of jeans in shades of white, off-white, or an earthy tan hue. These neutral-coloured denims can be paired with everything in your closet, whether it is an oversized olive coloured sweater or with a crisp white shirt for a brunch.

Myths about prunes busted

#Prunes are dried plums and possess numerous health benefits. Have them early morning to boost energy or have them in the evening as an instant snack when feeling drained out, says an expert.

myths-about-prunes-busted
Rohini Saran, a nutritionist, debunks some myths around prunes:

♦ Myth: It's good for older men and women.

Fact: Prunes are packed with various vitamins and minerals like Vitamins A (beta carotene), K, potassium and dietary fibre with added benefits of antioxidants. They can be consumed by both children and adults of all ages. Research suggests that eating a daily recommended dose of 100 gm or 10-12 prunes may be useful in digestive, bone and dental health in adult men and women. They can be eaten as a simple dried fruit snack or used in a variety of recipes, including salads, entrees, jams and desserts.

♦ Myth: Prunes can only be eaten in winter.

Fact: Prunes can be eaten all through the year. In fact, they should be consumed daily in moderation to keep the gut happy. Prunes by brands like Del Monte act as a great snack that helps you curb your desire to binge eat.

How to choose sunscreen for your skin

It is important to check if the #sunscreen suits your skin type because exposure to #Ultraviolet (UV) rays can lead to skin issues like tanning, says an expert.

how-to-choose-sunscreen-for-your-skin
Rohit Batra, dermatologist at Dermaworld Skin and Hair Clinic, has rolled out a few pointers that could be considered before you buy your sunscreen:

♦ Know your skin type: If your skin is oily, then go for sunscreen in the form of gel or spray as it won't make your skin appear oily. If your skin is dry, then go for lotions or cream as it helps to moisturize your skin and also helps to protect your skin from sun.

♦ Look for matte finish sunscreen: Sunblock which give matte finish will help your skin to look natural and also help to protect your face from looking sweaty.

♦ Go for UVA and UVB protection sunscreen: Photoaging and pigmentation is caused by UVA rays, on the other hand tanning and skin cancer is caused by UVB rays. It is very important to go for a sunscreen which protects your skin from both of these harmful rays.

Look for ‘SPF' for UVB protection and look for ‘PA' for UVA protection. To fight harmful UVB and UVA, SPF30 protection and PA++ protection respectively is more than enough.

Pick right outfits according to body type

The key to dress well is to understand your body proportions and use fashion to highlight your best feature. While people with broad shoulders should wear V-neck T-shirts, structured blazers are ideal for people with both broad shoulders and hips, says an expert.

pick-right-outfits-according-to-body-type
Salesh Grover, Business Head at OSL Luxury Collections Pvt. Ltd -Corneliani, has rolled out a few tips and tricks to choose an outfit that will flatter your body type:

♦ The average built: Such people have broad shoulders and narrow waist. Since the whole body is in perfect proportion, most styles fit and suit this body type. If you are dressing for casual outing, then bold pattern and different styles will add the spark to your look. For formal outing, you can keep it simple with tapered trousers.

♦ The inverted triangle built: Average built and triangle-shaped built are almost similar body shapes except for the shoulders. Shoulders in V-shaped built are broader than the shoulders in average body shape. For such structures, it's important to maintain the balance between the upper and lower body shape.

Why teenagers rarely share online risks with parents

An increasing number of teenagers get discouraged to talk to their parents about potentially risky online experiences, such as cyberbullying, sexual exchanges and viewing inappropriate content online, because parents tend to emote much stronger feelings and tend to freak out, become angry or scared, researchers have found.

why-teenagers-rarely-share-online-risks-with-parents
The study showed that parents and children often have much different perceptions of and reactions to the same online situations.

"There seems to be a disconnect between what types of situations teenagers experience every day and what types of experiences parents have online," said Pamela Wisniewski, Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida in the US.

"Teenagers tended to be more nonchalant and say that the incident made them embarrassed, while parents, even though they were reporting more low-risk events, emoted much stronger feelings, becoming angry and scared.

"For teenagers, some felt these types of experiences were just par for the course," Wisniewski added, in the study, presented at the ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing in Oregon.

Your face may match your name

Does your name resemble your face? Yes, say researchers who found out that owing to the cultural stereotypes that people associate with names, they can accurately match a stranger's name to his or her face.

your-face-may-match-your-name
"We are familiar with such a process from other stereotypes, like ethnicity and gender where sometimes the stereotypical expectations of others affect who we become," said lead author Yonat Zwebner, doctoral student at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel.

"For instance, people are more likely to imagine a person named Bob to have a rounder face, than a person named Tim.

"These stereotypes can, over time, affect people's facial appearance," Zwebner added.

Further, this might also be due to people subconsciously altering their appearance to conform to cultural norms and cues associated with their names -- like changing the areas of the face, such as hairstyle.
