Filmmaker #RimaDas says she is elated as her film #VillageRockstars is an official Indian entry to Oscars 2019.
Village Rockstars is a 2017 Indian Assamese language coming-of-age film by Rima Das. The film premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
Filmmaker Rima Das just took to her social media profile and wrote, “It's a huge honour, I am elated!”
The film grabbed the Best Feature Film ‘Swarna Kamal’ award at the 65th National Film Awards. Village Rockstars also won awards in three other categories, Best Child Artist, Best Location Sound Recordist and Best Editing.
Rima Das also wrote about this, she tweeted, “My sincere gratitude to @shekharkapur & National Awards Jury for awarding Village Rockstars with Best Film of India, Child Actor-Bhanita Das, Best Editor-Rima Das,On location Sound -Mallika Das! I am speechless. I have no words to express my joy. It’s a huge recognition for us!”
The film follows Dhunu, a girl who grows up in poverty and learns to fend for herself. However, that does not prevent her from following her dream of forming a rock band and owning a guitar someday. The film stars Bhanita Das and Manabendra Das in the lead roles.
The 91st Academy Awards is scheduled to be held on February 24, 2019.
