Akshay Kumar created a revolution with Padman and Toilet Ek Prem Katha, and now gearing up with Gold, which is based on India’s first Olympic gold medal in hockey during 1936.

So when asked about Gold will revolutionize the outlook towards hockey in India, Akshay Kumar said, “My wish is that I hope that hockey gets promoted a lot more. Through this movie, we are making a small contribution. See rather than just hockey, I want to put emphasis on sports. To me this is a sports film, for me, this is not about hockey, it is about sports.”

Indian Hockey Legend Dhyan Chand also rose to fame during the same time, but Akshay Kumar admits that the film is an inspired tale, not based on any particular sports individual.
When asked about will Gold have some preference of Dhyan Chand, the actor Akshay said, “See it is been inspired, so there will be many things which are fictional. So for me to say that certain elements are taken from Dhyan Chand would be wrong. Lot has been taken from here and there and put in the film.”

Akshay Kumar is noted for his agility and martial arts, but the actor is real life gold medalist as well. Talking about winning gold in real life, he said, “I have a gold medal in running, gold medal in volleyball, in karate and I have a bronze trophy as well.”

Akshay Kumar also added that time for the film to do Golden Jubilee or Silver Jubilee is over; now 2-3 weeks run can drive someone mad.

He said, “Time for Golden Jubilee is over, that time has gone. Nowadays if a movie runs for 2-3 weeks, the person goes mad.”

Gold is directed by Reema Kagti and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the Excel Entertainment banner. It also stars Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh, Amit Sadh, and Sunny Kaushal.

The film traces the “golden era” of Indian hockey through the journey of Tapan Das, a young assistant manager in 1936, who dreams of playing for an independent nation.

The film releases on 15th August 2018.
