#MobME Wireless, India’s first telecom campus startup, completes a decade of its launch this month, amid plans to ramp up its operations through a string of ambitious expansion initiatives to cater to the needs of customers in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the US.
Kochi-based MobME, which initially focused on providing mobility and related solutions to telecom operators, has expanded its range of technology to cater to needs of clients in e-commerce, airlines, BFSI and retail sectors, through its core verticals.
“As part of our expansion plans, the company has already initiated discussions with customers in the US, the Middle East, South Asia and Africa,” said Sathya Kalyanasundaram, CEO, MobME.
“As we mark a decade of our existence, we are making a strategic shift into a technology company with innovative analytics and banking product portfolios,” he added.
In order to expand its product portfolio, the company has also decided to consider inorganic growth opportunities such as acquisitions or similar transactions.
MobME was founded in 2006 by three enterprising engineering students Sanjay Vijayakumar, Sony Joy and Vivek Francis, while still pursuing their engineering. The team initially started with solutions for the telecom sector and later cemented its relationships with other sectors.
The company has carved a niche for itself by creating an array of innovative technology-driven verticals and solutions.
One of the key innovations was Chillr, a seamless way to transfer funds between bank accounts. Chillr received Series A Funding of $7.25M in 2015 from leading investment players including Sequoia Capital.
Through its Digital Banking Labs division, the company has teamed up with leading banks and financial institutions to help create a range of mobility solutions. The primary goal of these solutions is to enable a seamless, secure and fraud-proof transaction flow while augmenting the overall user experience.
Recognising customer experience as a major component of a sustainable enterprise, MobME launched ‘Geckolyst’, a pioneering product to help enhance customer experience for enterprises, by using advanced analytics and machine learning capabilities.
“Most startups tend to fail after a period of three-four years. It is hence a great achievement that we have completed a decade,” said Vijayakumar, founder-member of MobME.
“Moreover, we have made a successful transition from a founder-driven company to a professional management with a Chief Executive Officer leading the team. It shows the ability of the company to adapt effectively to the imperatives of changing times to achieve our goals,” he added.
“It’s been an amazing ride. We started young…. which was a very helpful factor as a far as innovation and experimenting is concerned but we lacked experience and were a little in doubt about sustaining what we had started. But then again we had a friendly business environment to help us and also ours is a great team… we continue to work together fantastically,” said Sony Joy, founder-member of MobME.
MobME, a winner of Nasscom India Leadership Awards for Innovation in 2009 and 2011, now strategically focuses on three key verticals — telecom solutions, customer experience analytics and mobility solutions for BFSI enterprises.
“In completing a decade as a pioneering startup, we now have a renewed focus on creating disruptive technology company that enables our enterprise clients to achieve their strategic initiatives. In doing so, we expect to achieve significant and sustained growth for ourselves over the next several years,” Kalyansundaram said.
