Kirti Kulhari interacted with media to promote ‘Blackmail’ on Wednesday in Mumbai.

Kriti who has worked in different films like ‘Khichadi’ ‘Jal’ ‘Pink, Indu ‘Sarkar’ and now in a comedy film ‘Blackmail, when asked whether it’s a conscious decision to pick different genres she said, “It’s very conscious. It’s not something that happens by chance to me. I have to very consciously choose the kind of work I want to do. I don’t care about the image I have. What matters to me is that with every film, I am growing more and more as an actor, pushing and challenging myself that’s what I look for and upon that my choices are based”

When asked Kirti what prompted her do ‘Blackmail’ she said, “I haven’t done a comedy in a while and it’s not that I am doing comedy in the film but it’s just interesting to come back to sense of comedy timing. It’s different.. the way comedy films are treated as compared to serious films and I have done too much serious stuff with ‘Pink’ and  ‘Indu Sarkar’ so it was very refreshing for me to do something like ‘Blackmail’ where way of acting, delivering dialogues is different and timing of things is so important that’s why I agreed to ‘Blackmail’.

When asked Kirti what helps an actor to get more work  - box office success of a film or good performance ,she said, “It’s both actually.. but numbers always helps. I think more than the performance but it also depends. There are some people in the industry to whom what matters is how good the actor is but to other people it doesn’t matter what matters to them how much money did the film made and what kind of market this particular actor has so, both the things matters but in different degrees to different people. Having said that, if I have performed brilliantly and my film doesn’t do well at the box-office, it does reduce the chances of me getting good and more work so I am hoping that ‘Blackmail’ does well at the box-office.”

"I think we desperately need some changes (in the censor board rules). I don't know, but it has become like a process where every film needs to go through and I think you should watch the film with reference to the context. Censor board needs to grow up and let the audiences grow up," she said here.

Kirti along with filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, veteran singer-composer Bappi Lahiri and Miss India Tourism Ishika Taneja was in the capital to launch the film's new song "Dilli ki raat"

"After aPink', I wanted to do something with which people will get surprised again so, 'Indu Sarkar' seemed as the perfect fit as it has Emergency as its backdrop. It's a very important subject. The title role that I played was very challenging and interesting," Kirti said.

The 14-day festival, which will screen films which have won National Awards across categories this year and will open with Marathi film "Kaasav" directed by Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukhtankar, said Rajendra Talak, vice chairperson of the Entertainment Society of Goa, a semi-government agency which is hosting the event.
