Fitness may guard you against stress related health issues
If you are physically fit and in good shape, you may be well-guarded against the health problems that arise when you feel particularly stressed at work, a study says.
The findings showed that a high fitness level offers particularly effective protection for professionals who experience a high degree of stress in the workplace -- known as psychosocial stress.
Psychosocial stress is one of the key factors leading to illness-related absences from work. This type of stress is accompanied by impaired mental well-being and an increase in depressive symptoms.
Canola oil may help reduce belly fat
Making #canola_oil part of your diet may help you burn extra abdominal fat in less than four weeks, finds a new study.
"Visceral, or abdominal, fat increases the risk for cardiovascular disease, and is also associated with increased risk for conditions such as metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Monounsaturated fats in canola oil decreases fat that has adverse health effects," said Penny M. Kris-Etherton, Professor at the Pennsylvania State University, US.
For the study, the researchers tested the effect of five different vegetable oil blended in 101 participants' diets through a controlled study.
The subjects were randomly assigned to follow for four weeks each of the treatment oil diets: conventional canola, high-oleic acid canola, high-oleic acid canola with DHA (a type of omega-3 fatty acid), corn/safflower and flax/safflower.
An egg a day can reduce risk of stroke
Consuming an egg -- nutrient-rich source of high quality protein -- per day may lead to a 12 per cent reduction in risk of stroke, a new research shows.
One large egg boasts six grams of high-quality protein and antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, found within the egg yolk, as well as vitamins E, D, and A, the study said.
"Eggs do have many positive nutritional attributes, including antioxidants, which have been shown to reduce oxidative stress and inflammation. They are also an excellent source of protein, which has been related to lower blood pressure," said lead researcher Dominik Alexander of the EpidStat Institute, Michigan, US.
Seal travel packages smartly
There is no dearth of exotic tourist locations waiting to be explored, but a number of factors need to be kept in mind before embarking on a vacation.
Kapil Goswamy, founder of travel portal BigBreaks.com, suggests how to select a good travel package:
♦ Chalk out a travel plan and specify your preferences: While booking through a travel agency, many people tend to ignore the calendar themselves and rely on the agents. However, it is important to remember that it is your vacation and you need to have a fair idea of the must do's on a particular destination, even if an experienced travel agent is planning it for you.
Eating fish may ward off allergies in kids
Women who consume oily fish while pregnant or during breast-feeding may decrease the risk of their children developing food allergies, asthma, eczemas or hay fever, researchers have found.
The findings have showed that children introduced to fish and eggs -- major source of omega 3 fatty acids -- before 11 months of age had a lower risk of developing allergies.
"Fish intake in the family seems to reduce the risk of allergies," said Karin Jonsson from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, in a statement.
Daily exercise may expose city kids to pollution
Children from urban areas who engage in vigorous exercises both indoors and outdoors may be at a greater exposure to black carbon -- a traffic-related pollutant -- than children who are less active, researchers said.
Black carbon -- a pollutant that is also an indicator of diesel exhaust exposure -- is known to have an adverse impact on health.
The study revealed that the children who exercised were exposed to 25 per cent greater concentration of black carbon compared to non-active children.
There are numerous health benefits associated with regular physical activity, including reduced airway inflammation compared to less active children, but, exposure to high levels of black carbon may lessen this effect, the researchers said.

Aishwarya is a director's actor: Omung Kumar
Filmmaker #Omung_Kumar has praised the acting skills of former Miss World #Aishwarya_Rai_Bachchan, who turned 43 on Tuesday, and also said that she is a director's actor.
"She is a good actress...but she is a director's actor. So, she can mould herself completely for the character. When we decided to cast her as Dalbir Kaur for 'Sarbjit', she proved that and on screen, we saw her as a character and not as a glamorous diva," Kumar told.
After clinching the Miss World crown in 1994, Aishwarya starred in many hit films like "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam", "Taal" and "Dhoom: 2".
Kumar said that "after the release of 'Sarbjit' (2016), people have changed their perception about her as an actress".
What makes her so special?
Kumar said: "Even after becoming such a huge star, she is extremely hard working and a hardcore professional. She does not just work in a film, she collaborates with the director of the film. She is very cooperative by nature, and that is why I share a very good bond with Aishwarya."
How to check authenticity of pre-owned luxury product
With online portals offering a lot of deals on #luxury_products, there are chances that they may not be real.
Smita Jain, Authentication Expert at Envoged.com (an online website for pre-owned luxury brands), lists certain pointers to check the authenticity.
* Quality: Authentic brands do not compromise on the quality of the material for their merchandise.
Cheaper alternatives like synthetic materials and sloppy workmanship are signs of a fake substitute. Its always best to be familiar with the material used in the product. For example, Michael Kors bags are rigid and sturdy and will stand stiff and retain their shape comfortably, while the fake will be sloppy with collapsing sides.
